Rhododendron prinophyllum
|
Rhododendron prinophyllum, the Roseshell azalea, is native to New England. In fact, there is a large stand in the park near Pittsfield, MA. This azalea was formerly classified as Rhododendron roseum. The Andover Bird Sanctuary contains a few plants of the Roseshell azalea in a naturalized setting but it there is very little reason to assume that these plants are endemic. However, this azalea is endemic to large portions of western Massachusetts.
